On June 18, 2024, NORBIT participated in a survey at Qian Dao Lake using the NORBIT Multibeam Sonar WINGHEAD i77h. This compact, ultra-high-resolution curved array broadband multibeam sonar offers tight integration with GNSS/INS (Applanix OceanMaster) and is designed for use in demanding operational environments.
This survey focused on the ancient underwater city of Shī Chéng, also known as “Lion City,” which dates back to the Tang Dynasty in 621 AD, making it nearly 1,400 years old.

The city, thought to have covered an area equivalent to over 60 football fields, was submerged in 1959 due to the construction of a hydroelectric dam. The high-resolution WINGHEAD i77h sonar captured detailed bathymetry of the city’s structures and the surrounding terrace paddy fields.
